Various nutritional characteristics
Fibre
- Dietary fibres are vegetable origin substances which our body is unable to assimilate but nevertheless they are essential to our health.
The intake of dietary fibre provides many benefits, among which to:
lower cholesterol, as fibre contributes to eliminating cholesterol;
lower blood glucose, fibre slows down the absorption of carbohydrates;
reduce calories and fat;
provide a detoxification and anti-cancer action;
Many of our products such as crisps, extruded products, popcorn, tortilla and corn flakes contain dietary fibre, particularly our croutons whether the golden or wholemeal types.
Vitamin C
- Vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) is vital to ensure the immune system and collagen synthesis in the body all function properly. Collagen strengthens blood vessels, skin, muscles and bones. Human beings can not create collagen without vitamin C.
Potatoes are an excellent source of vitamin C.
A medium size raw potato (about 150 g) provides 27 mg of Vitamin C (45% of the recommended daily dose). The frying process affects only 20% of the Vitamin C content.
It also contains 620 mg of potassium (18% of the recommended daily dose), 0.2 mg of vitamin B5 (10% of the recommended daily dose).
Gluten-free products
Celiac disease is a permanent intolerance to gluten, a protein found in many cereals.
The intolerance rate in Italy is estimated at 1 out of every 100/150 people.
We have paid considerable attention to this problem by producing a range of gluten-free products.
Selected lines are used during the manufacturing process; where there is potential for contamination the packaging carries a warning.
All our crisps and snacks can be consumed by people suffering from celiac disorders with the exception of certain products: potato crisps flavoured with paprika, the bacon flavoured zig zags, chilli flavoured tortilla chips, barmans, corn flakes and croutons.
Amica Chips has been collaborating for years with the AIC (Italian Celiac Association) to ensure that those who are gluten intolerant have a complete range of safe foods. Our gluten-free products are all listed in the handbook available on the AIC website at http://www.celiachia.it)
